We won the B1G1 Impact Global Award for our giving
On 19 June 2019 it was announced that we won the 2018 B1G1 Impact Global Award for our giving to worthy causes and projects around the world.
While it’s about making a difference in the world and less about accolades for doing that, I think it’s great to share that we won this Impact Global Award for the purposes of encouraging other businesses to get involved in giving as well.
When clients hire me to speak at their events, we use part of the fee to help disadvantaged people and those in need in communities all around the world. We do this because we can and we want to, and because we believe that we’re blessed to be a blessing. We did nothing to be born into the privileged lives that we have (and if you’re reading this, you’ve been born into such a life as well), and it’s our fundamental belief that part of our purpose on this planet is to help those less fortunate than ourselves.
We help people that we don’t know and will probably never meet, because we believe it’s the right thing to do.
We sell products and services and use part of the proceeds to serve the world.
For example: I’ve co-authored 4 books and published one of my own. Each time we sell the book Better Business Better Life Better World, we help a teenage girl in Cambodia to stay in school and out of reach of sex traffickers. Each time we sell the book Billy Bottombomb and the Great Poo of Pottyville, a potty-training book for parents to read to their toddlers, we provide access to toilets for poor communities in Zambia and Malawi.
And every time I’m engaged to deliver a motivational keynote or workshop on leading change, we’re feeding poor children in Indian schools or providing bricks to build classrooms in Nepal, or building dams in Kenya, or helping Peruvian farmers irrigate their crops. We’ve aligned our giving to support all 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We do this through a group called B1G1.
We choose B1G1 as our giving enabler. B1G1 does all the hard work of vetting worthy causes and social enterprises to make sure our giving gets to those needing help. Plus B1G1 provides us with all the tech support and widgets to communicate our giving to our customers as well as an amazing community of businesses who also have giving as one of their core values and reasons for being in business. Together we impact the world beyond our reach.
So if you’re running a business, no matter how big or small, I’d like to use this award moment to encourage you to consider doing the same in your business. If you’d like to discuss why and how, I’d be happy to talk you through it and introduce you to the B1G1 team. Or you can simply contact them yourself here.
It’s great to be recognised for giving. It’s far greater to have others recognise the need for them to also give. So this post is for you. For: giving forward.
